Dress-up Perfect
First impression sets the best impression, so dress up in clean and ironed out formal outfits for the interview. It's recommended for men to wear black shoes, dark trousers and a white shirt. And for women since there is nothing that can be branded formal, you can choose to wear clothes with conservative colours and make sure that they aren't revealing or provocating.
-
The Handshake
Once entering the interview room introduce yourself to the interviewer and shake hands firmly. A firm hand shake would mean that you are confident and a sluggish one would convey that you are nervous or less confident. If the interviewer is a lady, then let the hand shake be gentle.
-
Sit with Confidence
You're asked to occupy the seat in the interview room - don't just sit on the edge, that would obviously convey to the interviewer that you aren't confident enough. Occupy the full seat and sit straight. If you feel comfortable crossing your legs, you can. Try maintaining eye contact all through the conversation.
-
Coffee
After you have settled in the room, if the interviewer unexpectedly offers you a cup of coffee, don't panic. There is nothing wrong in turning down the offer by politely saying "thank you but I just had a cup". However if insisted you can always grab your cup but make sure you hold the cup by its handle and take your sip after the interviewer had taken his. And remember its not important for you finish your cup.
-
Skip the Embarrassing Situation
Nothing can embarrass you very badly during the interview than your ringing hand-phone. As a thumb rule have the phone switched off or on silent mode. Remember a ringing hand-phone can score you negative points.
-
Limited Gestures
How much ever relaxed or nervous you are during the rounds try to maintain your cool. By all means limit your non-verbal communication because it can convey your boredom, amusement or attentiveness and even provide many other cues that can be have varying effects on the outcome of the interview.. Maintain eye contact all through the conversation and never look away.
-
Tone
Always maintain a positive tone and sound energetic through out the conversation, never sound dull, boring, criticising or negative. Asking a few relevant questions about the company is always considered right, since it gives you the opportunity to know more about the organisation.
