Time to graze new pastures

Everything changes with time. However the thing with jobs and career is that when you fall into a comfort zone, it becomes almost impossible to even think about moving out. Yes, we all stick around and as time goes by get so used to doing the routine things that the thought of leaving and moving to greener pastures is almost unthinkable. Because you would obviously feel that the job that you're doing right now is good enough and things cannot get greener than this. But have you ever wondered when was the last time you felt absolutely motivated about getting to work? Is it months or years since you got out of bed eager to start the day?

Most often people hold on to their jobs not just because of the fear of the unknown and feeling of security but also because jobs after a certain point of time become a convenience and the people you work with become an integral pat of your everyday life. Everything becomes routine and not everyone really looks forward to change, even when it's apparent that it's for the better. Particularly since a job after a sometime can become bone-numbingly boring and can literally make you vegetate; which will eventually harm you, though not everyone is willing to accept this fact.

Leaving a job should be your decision, unless unavoidable circumstances make it otherwise. So when you think you're being completely wasted it would be better for you to make the decision to move on before you're asked to. No employer would wish to pay for the services and space for someone who has stagnated and is not self-motivated enough to get out of the rut, take ownership and shoulder more responsibilities. However most people fail to realise the fact that taking charge and moving on to newer pastures is comparatively more rewarding than staying-put and stagnating, though the results may not be evident in the beginning.

The most common reason why people stay back is certainly the fear of what might lie ahead. Marching into the unknown is definitely a risk that everyone would be wary of, till they're absolutely sure about what they are getting into, which is never possible. Nevertheless the very first step in saving your career growth from being obliterated by inaction is the self-realisation that you will have to pack your bags and move. And when you've come to terms with the fact that you're hanging on to something that might be convenient but not necessary perfect for your capabilities, it shouldn't be very difficult to take the next step. Here are some tips that you can make use of to make the transition as normal and enjoyable as possible.

Get the nerve up
Habitually people give up on their dream career because of the lack of financial security that it provides. You could have got your chance too but when you're relatively well settled it can be quite difficult to move away from something that you've probably been doing for ages. But when you've understood that what you've been doing for a while has become soul-sapping and monotonous it shouldn't be difficult to get the pluck up to try something new. Yes, familiar territory can be quite impossible to break-away from but if you are really sure that this is not what you want to do and would be better off doing something else, it wouldn't too hard to convince yourself to try something new.

Ask around
After you've decided what you want to do, make sure you talk to a lot of people, research options and educate yourself. There's never a more dependable companion than information. So do all it takes to stop being ignorant and clueless, pick up the phone, chat up friends, meet experts, go for classes, get trained and make sure you're really well-informed of what you're getting yourself into.

Test in small measures
If you're not willing to take the plunge immediately though you're convinced you want to try your hand at your new career, then do it in small measures. Volunteer, shoulder part of the expenses, offer services for free and compromise if you won't be given the complete responsibility. By agreeing for this you will be able to try your hand and luck without incurring too much damage. Moreover while you choose to freelance or do something part-time you have the additional security of a permanent employment in hand, which can be quite encouraging. However when you decide to pursue something that you love, the will to achieve and give shape to your dream will itself equip you with the strength to move ahead and before long you will be ready to chase your dream full-fledged and be on your own.

Fly Abroad
When an opening presents itself, don't hold back. By holding back you might even lose an opportunity that might have been perfect for you. Cross countries, states or even a city if you're not too keen to move abroad. But take the plunge to change places and you'll be surprised by the avenues it opens up for you.

Save that nest egg
Yes, you've decided to dive into something new but don't let that make you blow caution to the winds. No matter what you decide you cannot go on forever without money, so make sure before you take the plunge that you have something saved for any contingency that might arise. It is not necessary that you should save up to support eternity but something even nominal would help incase...

Chart a plan
You never can tell what life has in store but when you've decided to move out of the usual, make a list of the things that you will have to take care of during your lean months. Expenditure and financial commitments can never be completely wiped out so though you can never be sure what might unfold in the future, make sure that you at least know what happens every month and have enough money and other necessary essentials charted out and stay prepared.

The laws of nature have proved many a times that when you really want something the universe will help you find a way to make things work. Evolution and change is not just a necessity but also something that you can't really stop. If you've made up your mind to pursue your dream or change course you can be sure that everything else will fall into place on its own. Just sit back, be perceptive and stay aware and most importantly trust your judgment and your decision to pursue a new opportunity and you can be sure that everything else will fall into place, it always does with time.
