How to land your first job sooner
Everyone dreams of getting out of college and starting to make the big bucks as soon as possible. Depending on your chosen path chances are that you might be well-placed even before you graduate. However most often, fresh college pass-outs don't really have a job until much later. It is an accepted fact that nothing can be more cumbersome than looking for a job when you're just out of college. With very little experience to vouch for and understandably more social connections than professional, there can be minor setbacks before you finally manage to land any job. However don't fret too much, because a growing economy always creates brand new opportunities and encourages fresh new perspectives, and opens more doors than you would even realise. But getting picked by employer's calls for some swift yet appropriate moves like the ones given below!

Get to know yourself
The first step towards a great career is, knowing what you want to achieve. As a fresher that can seem a little bit too much. But that shouldn't stop you from getting to know yourself and your skills better. You obviously haven't worked before, (unless you were enterprising enough to do a couple of summer jobs) but you would have handled assignments or even fun-activities. Though this might not always be considered as an experience, it would have helped you gain some insight about your capabilities. Figure out how you can put them to use and sell them as a skill to a prospective employer. You can also talk to people who really know you and ask for their opinion as this would help you gain diverse viewpoints that will help you turn deeper inside.

Research
After you know where you want to proceed, make a detailed list of employers who you think will be interested in hiring a person with your competence. You can always post your resume on ClickJobs.com and start directly applying to prospective employers in your desired field. Whatever it is that you choose to do, remember that little extra knowledge hurt no one. By getting to know about the employers in your field of choice you can also get to know about the latest fads in your desired industry and thereby sharpen-up your capabilities accordingly.

Polish your skills
Research will always give you the necessary information that is sure to come in handy. After you start getting to know the wider picture, it shouldn't be very difficult to know where you stand in the market. There can be no end to learning, so when you're still in the hunt, find out ways to get trained in the vocation that you'd zeroed-in on.

Search round the clock
Don't give-up looking for a job until you find one. That doesn't mean you should go around banging doors. Try a methodical approach that entails all the new-age job search necessities. From creating an impressive online presence, networking to sending out your resume to hundreds of recruiters, do it all and more. Because with millions of students passing-out every year, the competition is bound to be fierce and getting to the top demands some really desperate measures, albeit subtly.

Smarten-up your attache-case
You must be more than aware that your resume and cover letter is your first introduction to an employer. However with almost zilch experience to boast of, a resume can look a bit too thin to seem impressive. But that should not necessarily dampen your spirits. If you don't know what you should highlight, talk to people who are working and find out what you should emphasise. You can also choose to get a professional to draft you an appropriate resume. However if you are doing it yourself, just make sure you add everything that will project the reason why you should be hired and why you think you'll be a perfect fit. From work that you might have volunteered to internships, IT skills, college projects to everything that is really relevant, make sure to add them all.

Network
With very little professional contacts to fall back on, it can seem considerably difficult to land a job if all else fails. However the good part is that since you're just starting off, you can also start building your network too. Talk to peers, professors, alumni, friends and even career consultants and make sure you give-out your resume to people you know, because you never know who might get hold of it when it is being circulated.

Be interview-ready
With almost no experience to talk about, you shouldn't be surprised if an employer is keener to know how well you will fit into the position you'd applied for. If you've zeroed-in on a particular line of work, you obviously feel you would fit in well, so try to communicate that confidently and with enthusiasm. Employers always look for people who are willing to learn so before you even go for the interview do some research about the organisation and its offerings. And don't forget to sound professional and positive, which shouldn't be difficult when you're really prepared.
