Beat the odds, stay motivatedby Vishnupreetham
Beat the odds, stay motivatedStaying motivated at all times can be quite a task but what most people don't realise is the fact that it is the key factor that helps one get to the top. The driver of good spirits, motivation is contagious and has a positive impact not just on outcomes but also on a person's morale. Even employers look for people who are motivated to succeed, because positive outlook always translates to great work and is infectious enough to motivate people around too. Here are a few tips to keep you motivated at all times. Gain clarity Working without really knowing where you want to get and what you hope to achieve is no strategy at all. Everyone has some dream or aspiration, so work towards making that come true. When you know what you want, you are bound to start making a plan and this would help you gain traction, because at the end of the day, when you are clear about what you want, half the battle is won. Decide a plan of action After you know where you want to get, your next course of action should be to figure out how to get there. Chart out a complete plan. Although nothing in life goes according to plan, when you have a clear course to follow in mind, you most probably will try and stick to it and be able to overcome glitches better. It is the same as driving to go somewhere. You know the destination, and you know you have to be someplace, now all you would need is to figure out the way to get there, so that you don't waste time. Stay connected Whether it is your need to achieve your goals or the end result that you're working towards, keep things in perspective as much as possible. If you seem to be drifting away, remind yourself of your need to pursue the goal or the reason you decided on that particular course in your career. Whatever happens don't lose sight of the things that are important to you. Reward yourself Everyone likes gifts and rewards. So when you decide on a goal, also decide on the rewards that you plan to give yourself as an incentive. This way every rung of the ladder you climb towards achieving your desire, you will stay motivated to keep trying harder till you get where you've always wanted to be. Bask in your success Every little milestone you cross is a success on its own. So take time to celebrate it; this way you will not stop getting demotivated if it's taking far too much time than you had planned. The more you appreciate even the smallest of successes, the more sweeter will the final achievement be. Moreover, taking a well-deserved break from the grind to give yourself a pat in the back, will keep you positive and motivated longer. Outperform Fine, you've made up your mind on what you want, but that does not mean that you should be happy with just getting there. Do more than necessary and you'll be surprised how much better the outcome will be. This does not mean that you will have to do better all the time or not be satisfied with what you get. What you really need to do is, stop becoming complacent and exert just a little more to hone your skills even further. Maintain work-life balance A lot of times people forget that they have a life outside work. When you're focused on achieving something it can be difficult to do other things, but that's all only in the mind. All work and no play have not made a success out of anyone. Yes there can be exceptions to the rule, but why would you want to only slog and let the rest of your life, disappear without a trace? You need a life and some breathing space too! Take time out to do all that you like doing. Spend time with your family, friends, read a book, paint, do some gardening, play a sport, well, do just about anything that will make you happy and see that happiness translating to your work. Think positive It's human to wallow in self pity and take the negative route when things fail. But learn to snap out of it as quickly as you jump into the well of hopelessness and distress. When you start feeling down, just listen to music or watch something that inspires you. You can even pick up an inspiring book or speech. Or if you have access to none of this, just spend some time reading inspiring and motivating quotes. No matter what happens, stay positive, if you don't seem to be snapping out of your delirium; just take a walk or a break. If you can't afford to take a holiday, just go anyplace green, say a park close-by and watch people relax and enjoy. Looking at kids playing and having fun is a great destresser that can make you forget whatever it is that you want to and also help you come out feeling refreshed to take on the world again. Believe in yourself When things seem to be falling apart this is the last thing that you would feel. But trust is a strong feeling, and a great motivator. Be it trust in your capabilities or the outcome, when you strongly believe that you can do it, you will do it. Just stay focused and work towards achieving whatever it is that you want to and success will follow; provided you trust that it will. So start your day not just by saying you can do it but strongly believing that you can. |
